Koh Samui, Thailand
Thailand's second-largest island. Natural beauty, modern infrastructure and a growing international community.
The Island
Koh Samui sits in the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 700 kilometres south of Bangkok. The island covers around 230 square kilometres and is home to a population of roughly 60,000 permanent residents alongside a significant international community.
The island has its own international airport with direct connections to Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and other regional hubs. This accessibility — combined with a well-developed infrastructure of international schools, private hospitals, restaurants and retail — makes Koh Samui a practical choice for long-term living as well as investment.
The north and northeast of the island, where VLLS projects are located, offer elevated hillside positions with sea views, cooler breezes and proximity to the island's main amenities.

Getting Here
Koh Samui has its own international airport with direct flights from Bangkok (multiple daily), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and other regional hubs. Journey times from Bangkok are under an hour.
The island is also accessible by ferry from the mainland port of Don Sak, with regular crossings throughout the day. For those travelling from Europe or further afield, connections via Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport are straightforward.
Investment Perspective
Koh Samui's property market has grown steadily over two decades, supported by consistent tourism demand, improving infrastructure and a growing base of international residents and long-stay visitors.
Koh Samui receives millions of visitors annually. Strong short-term rental demand supports villa occupancy and rental income for owners who choose to let their property.
Ongoing investment in roads, healthcare, international schools and retail has made the island increasingly attractive to long-term residents and international buyers.
The island's topography and planning constraints limit the supply of quality hillside villa land. Well-positioned projects in established locations hold their value over time.
Infrastructure Development
The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has published a feasibility study for a fixed-link expressway connecting Koh Samui to the mainland. The proposed route would run from the Don Sak area on the Surat Thani coast to the island, replacing the current ferry crossing with a direct road connection.
If approved and built, the expressway would fundamentally change access to the island — reducing travel times from the mainland to under 30 minutes and opening Koh Samui to a significantly larger catchment of visitors, residents and investors.
This project is at feasibility stage. No construction timeline has been confirmed. The information below is based on publicly available official documents and news reporting.

What This Could Mean for Property
Fixed-link infrastructure has historically influenced property values by improving accessibility, expanding the potential buyer pool and supporting tourism and regional economic activity. However, the scale of the impact depends on the project, its location and local market conditions.
